SPC Team awarded Governor's Commendation

The Transaction Management Team of the State Properties Commission was awarded the Governor’s Commendation for Excellence in Customer Service during ceremonies at the historic Freight Depot.

The Governor’s Office of Customer Service (OCS) honors a handful of the most outstanding teams and employees for their work each quarter. State employees and teams may be nominated by peers, leadership or customers. These awards represent those employees with the best customer service that Georgia has to offer in the areas of courteous, helpful, accessible, knowledgeable and responsive service.

The Transaction Management Team, composed of Team Leader Frank Smith, Stephanie Boyer, Scott Jennings, Thad Jackson and Kalil Smith, received the award for its successful efforts in renegotiating leases on behalf of state agencies – saving these agencies and the state more than $4 million.

The initiative was launched in an effort to achieve rent savings and cost avoidance during the recent economic downturn. The SPC team proactively approached landlords to renegotiate both existing and expiring leases. These negotiations included reduction in rental rates as well as adjustments in space and allowances for needed facility improvements.

“Not only did the team help the state save a significant amount of money, they earned the praises of their customers,” said SPC Deputy Commissioner Frank Smith. “

State Property Officer Steve Stancil echoed those sentiments. “It’s great to do your job well and it’s great to provide good customer service. It’s outstanding when you are able to do both and that’s what this team has done.”
